Welcome To Koh Samui Island
This is the third biggest island of Thailand, which was mainly a self-sufficient community that had little interaction with mainland Thailand until the onset of urbanization in the 20th century. Koh Samui residents are divided as to their acceptance of progress because of environmental impact of economic growth and changes to their indigenous culture.
Tourism remains a major income earner for the island, with even a major 2000-passenger cruise ship set to arrive this 2008.
