Big Buddha Temple

Big Buddha Temple is the home of Koh Samui's most famous landmark. This famous attraction in Koh Samui showcases the rich Buddhist culture.

Most Visitors come to marvel at the sheer size and beauty of this remarkable statue at some point during their holiday. Visible from several kilometers away and even from the air when arriving on or leaving the island, the 12 meter tall golden image stands proud. This remarkable statue offers a real sight for its visitors. The temple is a rather modern construction. The 12 meter high Buddha sits on a small islet connected to the big island by an unpaved causeway. In front of the temple is a cluster of shops and food stalls catering to bus loads of tourists and day- tripping Thais.

The stunning exterior offers a taste of the beauty and elegance found within. Entering the temple, you first come to a large paved courtyard with a dragon stairway on the other side. The stairs lead you up to the platform on which the Buddha image sits. From the platform you get some good views of the long beach where the islet sits.

If you wish to carry some of the souvenirs home, there is a small silver shop which has uniquely crafted items on display.
